Fly to Shillong – its erstwhile capital of undivided ASSAM, present of Meghalaya and home to the KHASI highland tribe famous for weaving cane products which last about 20 to 30 years. Move onto Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to some of India’s largest mammals. It’s not only the home of one-horned rhinoceroses but also a bird watcher's paradise and home to some 500 species of birds including many migrants. Onto Guwahati, capital of Assam and Kolkata to connect the charming hill station of Darjeeling from where one can watch the sunrise over Mount Everest from tiger hill - one of the most impressive in the Himalayas, the legendary Darjeeling teas are cultivated here, and Toy train is a memorable experience. Sikkim is renowned for its flora and has a large number of Buddhist monasteries, including Rumtek with their fine collections of paintings and relics. Cocooned for centuries by the great mountains, its forests have over 500 varieties of orchids. Sitting pretty on the erstwhile trade route between India and Tibet, Kalimpong has a diverse and rich heritage coming from the various people that inhabited it. It offers the visitor a glimpse into the rich culture of the Bhutanese, the Nepalese, the Tibetans & the Lepchas!
